Ian’s First Bike

0

So this is the first bike we bought for Ian and then promptly returned. We liked the way that the bike looked like what he would graduate to (instead of being a tryke and it was cheaper than a tryke), but once we got it home and put together, the pedals were still on the wheels like a tryke. Ian couldn’t reach the pedals!

So we ended up returning Ian’s Thomas bike for a tryke instead.

Coloring Easter Eggs & Easter Morning

0

I know I’ve been slacking on uploading the videos, but if you want them sooner, you should subscribe to our feed over on Youtube.  Either way, here come a flurry of vids and the first one was done at Easter when Ian colored his first egg.

He actually did really well and managed to dip and pull out the eggs without spilling one container.  He picked up on what he was suppose to do rather quickly and had a blast at the same time.

This year, we also had an easter egg hunt for the first time. Ian loved going around collecting eggs, but he really wasn’t happy about giving up his treasures.

Ian’s 1st Pool Party

0

2009.03.08-Pool.19.jpgFor Ian’s birthday this year, we had planned a big bash with decorations and everything.  However, all three of us woke up sick on the morning of his birthday so we had to postpone his party. Instead of having one party this year, we’re going to end up with 3 separate ones – one for each side.  I’ve been trying to avoid that, but with everyone’s schedules, it was just too hard to schedule it.

The first celebration was this past weekend when Lori and Gramps came up and stayed at a hotel with a pool so Ian could swim. He had a blast. The first night we were there, he couldn’t stop giggling (of course, I had to forget my camera), but he had just as much fun the next morning when we went again.  He ended up having his first slumber party when we left him with Aunt Lori and Gramps at the hotel.

When Jesse and I got back to the hotel the next day, I still had forgotten my camera, but I did rectify that and went home to get it.  Lori and Gramps had a late checkout so we were able to have another shot at the pool and I got some great pictures.  Ian wasn’t as giggly as he was the night before, but he had a blast all the same.  For some reason, he really enjoyed the hot tub.  We didn’t let him in, but he was able to dangle his feet into the water.  I’m thinking it was the bubbles, because he had fun kicking water all over Jesse.  :)

Ian’s Toddler Bed

1

2009.01.24-Ian.02.jpgYup, you saw that right.  Ian has graduated to a toddler bed.  Jesse and I had been contemplating moving him into one for quite awhile now.  At first, we thought about doing it during the holidays, but then something came up and we decided to wait until his 2nd birthday.  Well, a couple of weeks ago, our minds were changed once again.  Ian loves getting in our bed and pulling the covers up and “going to bed” that we couldn’t logically put it off anymore.  So while Gramps was up one weekend, the men changed Ian’s crib to a toddler bed.  Ian is loving it and he’s been awesome with it.  The night we changed it over, he was all set to hop into bed and go to sleep (without taking his bath).

Since then, he’s been doing really well with it.  We really haven’t had a problem with him getting out of bed and giving us a problem with going to bed (knock on wood).  We still go through our nightly routine and when he’s put in bed he generally stays. Now there have been a couple of times where he starts to crawl out as we’re leaving the room, but generally we just need to turn around and tell him it’s bedtime and to go to sleep and he’ll crawl right back in bed.

With that said, yesterday was a different story.  He did not want to take a nap (even though it was obvious he needed one) and he did get up a couple of times.  He did end up getting in a nap, but he never made it back to his bed.  I went in to check on him after 20 minutes of silence and found him curled up on the floor with his blankets.  We’re thinking he slept there purposefully since he had both of his blankets wrapped around him (he’s been having growing and teething pains simulatneoiusly).

The one thing we were hoping he would figure out sooner still hasn’t happen though.  Now that he can get in and out of his bed when he wants, he still waits for one of us to come get him after he wakes up.  He will sit in his bed for 5 minutes calling us instead of getting out and playing.  We were hoping he would be content to getting pu and playing in his room for awhile, so Jesse and I could sleep in a little more on the weekends, but that’s a no go at the moment.

So Ian has officially gone into a toddler bed and we no longer have a crib.

Snow!

0

We had Ian out in the snow for the first time. Well, it wasn’t his first encounter with snow, we did take him out once last February, but this was his first trip INTO the snow. :)  I shouldn’t say this is Ian’s first taste of snow since , but we really didn’t allow him to get INTO the snow.  This year we did.  He hasn’t been crazy about it at first because he wouldn’t keep his gloves on.  Once he had them on, and then went into the snow, he took it a little better.  He has a hard time moving in his snowsuit, but he wanted to go back out the next day.

1st Homemade Haircut

0

Check out my men! We went out and bought some hair trimmers and gave them our first home done haircuts. I have to say, I think they turned out rather well. It took us a couple of different times to get Ian done, but he looks so adorable.

1st Sentences

0

Ian said his first sentences!!

  1. Hi Da-da
  2. Cup Please

Granted, there isn’t a verb in there anywhere, but they were two sentences regardless.  I’m so excited.

Jesse just finished putting him down for a nap and Jesse said Ian was saying another sentence…Mama Read! That one has a verb in it!

Ian and the Pumpkin Patch

1

We took Ian to the pumpkin patch for the first time yesterday and he seemed to have a ball.  He loved running up and down all the rows and loved picking up all the pumpkins.

Ian’s Vocabulary

2

2008.10.19-Ian.02.jpgIan’s vocabulary is starting to grow, so before it really blossoms, I thought I would let you know what he has figured out.

Ian is definitely starting to speak more and more.  There are a few words he loves – “ride” and “mine” being two of them.   He loves going for rides, whether its in his stroller or in the car.  Whenever we need to go anywhere, we just have to tell him ride and he’ll repeat it and get so excited.  Yesterday, Jesse got him his own scooter and now he’s all about “riding” in the house.  He loves going up to it and saying: “mine!  ride!”.  Granted, everything is mine these days.  He even comes up to Jesse and I and claims us as his.

Jesse has already wrote up the anatomy words he can say, but just as a recap, Ian can pretty much point and say the major body parts – eye, nose, mouth, ear, hand, feet, hair.

Ian is also very polite for his age.  He is all over the “please” and “thank you”.  He’ll even say thank you without any prompting from me.

He has figured out how to say “more” and what it means.  It was amusing when Jesse bought some cottage cheese.  The two of them went through a quart of the stuff in one sitting.  Whenever Ian finished his, he would yell “more!”.  It’s really cute.  He has also figured out how to say “bite” and he tends to say it when we’re not sharing our food even though he has his own.  We were running late yesterday morning and we stopped at Tim Hortons for one of their breakfast combos for Jesse.  While Jesse was munching on his bagel, Ian was in the back yelling “bite”.

He’s also doing pretty good with his colors.  Jesse has been working with him on them for awhile.

And of course, he can say every toddler’s favorite word – “NO”.  He answers everything with no, so we really need to start getting him to figure out the word yes.  However, he does know the word “yeah” or “yea”.  There are times he’ll answer with one of those instance, but it’s not consistant or reliable.

Ian has also figured out “baby”.  It’s not just when we see a baby either.  If we’re playing with him or holding him like a baby, he’ll say baby.  And he loves pointing out all the babies.

Another one he’s pretty consistent with is “night night”.  Every night, after I put him in his crib, I say night night to him and he responds with night night.  There are times he even says it before I can.  It’s a little routine, but he’ll say it when I tell him it’s naptime too.

I can’t believe I almost forgot the numbers.  Ian’s counting isn’t perfect, but he knows “one” and “two“.  We’re still working on three, but according to Jesse, he does say it.  He also has “five” and “seven” down.  We’re still working on the rest.

2008.10.16-Ian.02.jpgOf course, Ian is saying the standard “hi”, “bye”, “mama” and “dada”.

And the last word I can think of is “bubbles”.  He loves his bubbles and we’ve started giving him bubble baths again because of it.

I really can’t think of any other words Ian is saying at the moment, but I’m sure Jesse will pop up with a few.  He’s already mentioned the words “out” and “car”, but I can’t remember hearing them.  I’m pretty sure I’m missing a few, but these are the ones that are consistently spoken by Ian.

Even though he’s not speaking a lot of words, he understands way more.  You can tell him what you want and (when the mood strikes) do it.  I can tell hi to go get his plate and he will.  He’s even able to tell you what he generally wants, but getting anything specific is the difficult part.

So that’s it.

I forgot one….“why”.  Do I really need to explain this one?

More words I’ve forgotten:

  1. “Fish” – Whenever we’re near the fish display at Meijers, Ian goes nuts and wants to see the feesh.  We tried getting him his own fish, but we had a hard time keeping the tank warm enough for the beta, so we ended up returning it.
  2. “Yummy” – what kid doesn’t know this one, right?  :)
  3. I can’t believe I forgot “read”.  Ian loves to read and he knows every night he gets read to right before bed.  Right now, Jesse is reading King Arthur and the Knights of the Roundtable to him and if he’s even late getting to his bedroom, Ian will run out to get him and shout “READ!”.  It’s so cute.
  4. “Cheese” – Ian loves his cheese.  He can’t get enough of it and he makes sure you know by asking for lots and lots of “cheese”.  On the flip side, he also knows what it means when a camera is pointed at him, but you can’t always count on a smile.

Ian’s New Pillow

0

Ian loves climbing into our bed and laying on our pillows that I couldn’t resist getting him his own.  We were at Meijer last night and the travel pillows were on sale.  He loves it!
