Ian-mo10 Ian-mo09He’s 10 months old and starting to walk. That’s probably the biggest thing that has occurred this month. He’s not walking on his own, but he is definitely cruising along the furniture and he’s already trying to take that first step without support. We think we’ve seen him take a step a couple of different times, but it’s always been out of the corner of our eye. But for now, he’s attempting the walking issue. Nana helped him along when she gave him the walker for Christmas. He hasn’t really used it that much yet, he’s been too busy pushing his activity tables around; but I think once he realizes what it can do for him, he’ll be all over the place. Be prepared to see him walking at the end of this month. Oh! Ian also received his third tooth – one of his top front teeth – from Santa this year. And he has another on the way.

Jesse finally gave Ian a burrito and he seemed to have taken it well. He made up one of his burritos – which includes olives, hamburger, refried beans, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, cheese, and lettuce – stuck it in the blender and presto…instant baby food. It was a little chunky, but that’s the way Ian likes it. We were going to start trying to make our own baby food at the beginning of the month, but Ian has no desire to mess with that stuff anymore. We can still give it to him occasionally, but he does not want it for every meal. We have transitioned to table food. I’m still trying to find meal combinations to give him for lunch since I’m not a big lunch fan myself, but we’re working on it.

We’re trying not to allow Ian to watch too much TV. I used to have it on a lot for background noise (now I have the laptop, I have my music) and Ian didn’t really pay too much attention to it. That changed when we put in the Muppet Show. There was nothing on TV one night and we threw it in since it’s something we both like. Ian went nuts and stayed glued to the TV the entire time they were on. He’s not a big fan of Fraggle Rock, but he likes Kermit and the gang. Our opinion – it’s better than Barney.

SLEEP UPDATE – Ian is not sleeping through the night yet, but he’s almost there. He’s still getting up at least once a night, but that’s pretty much it. There were a couple of nights that he slept through the entire night, but then we went to BC for Christmas and along the way developed an ear infection. That kind of screwed everything up. He’s starting to get better now, so I’m hoping we’ll get back to trying to sleep all night. When he does get up at night, he’s not generally up for long. It seems like he needs to reassure himself that I’m still there. We did get one surprise a couple of nights ago. Ian was in bed and Jesse & I were playing Puzzle Pirates. I was in the middle of a battle so Jesse went in to comfort Ian when he woke up. After the battle, I went in to relieve Jesse and Ian was not happy about that. He wanted back into daddy’s arms when I tried to take him. It was so cute. He clung to Jesse and they rocked together until Ian went back to sleep. That may not seem odd to many people, but Jesse never gets up with Ian at night, so Ian is always used to me. The fact that he wanted daddy and not me was amazing. It made my night.

I’m starting to think about what to do for his first birthday. I know it’s still 2 months away, but with all the family being out of town, I need to figure out where I’m going to have it. There’s no way we can have it here – we simply do not have the room. I haven’t put much thought into it, but I’m starting to plan. If anyone has any ideas, let me know.
